The key the crown the rings and adjustable foot joint are made of solid silver, weighing about 3 ounces. The silver pin of the key, set with a natural diamond. The foot joint is made with an innovative screwing method that allows for super precise adjustment. The flute comes with a handmade walnut case, a cloth bag. The original flute is made of boxwood, which has been stained and treated with violin varnish. It has seven middle joints and is equipped with a screw-cork and foot register, which can be pulled out to fit the middle joints.
The flute plays very well with middle joint No. 5 at a=415 Hz, making it possible to reproduce the original without any alterations. Its round embouchure and very balanced character make the Rottenburgh a universally employable flute that can span the complete range of Baroque flute music in a very sensitive style.I construct the Rottenburgh in well-aged Cocobolo, with a foot register. The surface is finished with oil, enhancing the quality of sound.
The pitch is a=415 Hz. This model can be made from Ebony or granadilla, or boxwood as well.
This Cocobolo flute is over 50-60 years aged. The ebony in the market today is planted with growth catalysts thus is far from the high density and premium-quality natural-grown ebony I use. This model can be made from cocobolo or granadilla, or boxwood as well. This is a sample from a similar Baroque flute cocobolo. Agronomical finger holes for easier playing especially for players with shorter fingers.
I learned to make the Baroque Flauto Traverso from the master flute maker Fridtjof Aurin. I create my flutes with extreme precision and strive for excellent musical qualities so that the instruments will inspire and delight both the player and the listener. I make the flutes by hand from a particularly rare, well-aged stock of Cocobolo and Ebony. Cocobolo wood grows in two forms, either natural, or artificially accelerated. The Cocobolo wood I use grew naturally and was harvest more than 80 years ago in South America, so that it is thoroughly seasoned. It is extremely beautiful, rare and truly dense, unlike the artificially grown type, whose accelerated development makes it considerably less dense, and therefore unsuitable for the very best flutes. The sound of my flutes made from this wood is intense, trenchant, powerful, and rich. They are surprisingly responsive to delicate nuances of style and embouchure. The player has to "lip" precise notes from a baroque flute to a far greater extent than with a modern concert.
